
As the University's chief academic officer, the Provost has broad responsibilities for advancing the education and research missions of Duke University. The office of the Provost is organized to support the Provost's work in the following principal areas:
The Provost's senior staff consists of the Vice Provost for Academic Affairs (John Simon), the Executive Vice Provost for Finance and Administration (James Roberts), the Vice Provost for Faculty Diversity and Faculty Development (Nancy Allen), the Vice Provost for Interdisciplinary Studies (Susan Roth), the Vice Provost for International Affairs and Development (Gilbert Merkx), the Vice Provost for Research (James Siedow), the Vice Provost for the Arts (Scott Lindroth), and the Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate Education (Stephen Nowicki). Other reports include the deans of Arts and Sciences (George McLendon), Divinity (L. Gregory Jones), Pratt School of Engineering (Thomas Katsouleas), the Fuqua School of Business (Blair Sheppard), the Law School (David Levi), the Nicholas School of the Environment (William Chameides), the Terry Sanford School of Public Policy (Bruce Kuniholm), and the Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School (Jo Rae Wright), as well as the Vice Provost for Library Affairs (Deborah Jakubs), the Vice President of Information Technology and CIO (Tracy Futhey), the Assistant Vice President for Information Technology (Julian Lombardi), the University Registrar (Bruce Cunningham), and Dean of Undergraduate Admissions (Christoph Guttentag), Director of Undergraduate Financial Aid (Alison Rabil), Student Information Systems and Services (Kathy Pfeiffer), the Nasher Museum of Art (Kimerly Rorschach), Duke University Press (Stephen Cohn), the Talent Identification Program (Martha Putallaz), and the Kenan Institute for Ethics (Noah Pickus). The Provost also meets regularly with the Vice President for Student Affairs (Laurence Moneta) on student life issues.
